Using your car everyday can cause it to have some mild scratches that are unsightly. You can get rid of these mild scratches by buffing them. You don’t have to waste money by repainting the entire car if the scratches are not that deep. All you need are a few materials in order to restore your car and make it look as good as new. Here are the steps on how you can buff scratches out of the surface of your car:
- Materials. The materials that you will need for buffing your car are a foam hand buff, terry cloth and a rubbing compound. You will find all of these materials from your local auto shop. If you have an electric car buffer, you can use that too. For information on the most effective rubbing compound to use for this, you can research on the Internet or ask some of your friends what brand is best to use.
- Apply rubbing compound. Put a small amount of the buffing compound onto the hand buff or the electric buff. Gently wipe the compound on the area with the scratch in a circular motion. Be sure to wipe it gently but apply a little force so that the compound can work on the surface of your car.
- Buffing the scratch. Continue rubbing on the area with the scratch. After a few minutes, you will see that the scratch will slowly disappear. Just continue buffing until you have eliminated the scratch completely. The job will be done much faster if you use an electric buffer but there are some things that you have to be careful about when using the electric buffer. When you use the electric buffer, be sure not to stay in one area for too long. The friction of the electric buffer can burn a hole through the paint and this will not be pretty on your car.
- Reminder. When buffing your car to get rid of scratches, it is important that you do this under the shade. If not, the rubbing compound can react to the heat of the sun and this may leave an ugly mark on the surface of your car. Always read the instructions on the container of the rubbing compound to see how to use the product properly. Not reading instructions may cause you more money when you do some damage to your car.
These are the simple steps on how you can buff your car to get rid of the mild scratches on it. For deeper scratches, you might have to bring your car to the auto shop so that they can do the necessary things to return your car back in good condition.
Remember to maintain the good appearance of your car by cleaning it regularly. Cleaning does not only mean wiping the exterior or bringing it to the car wash every once in a while. You also have to keep the interior of your car clean so that it will last for a long time and so that it will be presentable.
