How To Change a Radiator Hose

Materials. Get all the materials that you will need for this. You will need WD-40, a radiator hose, a screwdriver, a funnel, drain bucket, antifreeze and a small utility knife. If you are not sure, ask the help of someone from the automotive store.

Preparation. Make sure that the engine of your car is turned off before you start working on your car. Locate where the leakage is by surveying where the wet area is on the ground. Before you start working on your car, allow the engine to cool down for at least half an hour. While you are waiting for the car to cool down, set up the drain bucket right under where the leak is.

Remove the old radiator hose. When the vehicle is cool enough, you can start working on it. Get your screwdriver and loosen up the hose. In some cars, the radiator hose will not be easy to pull out. For this, you might need to cut it off from its connection. Be careful when you do this.

Install the new radiator hose. Get the clamps of the radiator and connect them to the new hose. If it is hard for you to connect, use the WD-40 and spray it on the end of the hose that you need to connect. Tighten the fit of the hose to the hose clamps. Afterwards, fill up the radiator with half a mixture of water and antifreeze.

Test the radiator hose. Turn the engine on and keep it running. When you do this, leave the cap of the radiator off. Just keep it running until the engine is warmed up.
