How To Clean Sheepskin Car Seat Covers

Sheepskin is a very sensitive material that is used as seat covers for cars. There are also a lot of other sheepskin items, such as slippers, upholstery and mattress covers. Over time, the material can accumulate dust and dirt. Cleaning the sheepskin material is not done the usual way so as not to damage it. You should clean sheepskin accessories every now and then so that they will last longer.

Here are some tips on how you can clean your sheepskin seat covers:

  1. Materials. Fist, you have to gather all the materials that you will use for the cleaning of the sheepskin car seat covers. The materials that you will need are shampoo, a basin of warm water, absorbent washcloths and a brush with metal bristles. You will have to hand wash the car covers because putting them in the washer will just damage the material. 
  2. Preparation. Remove your custom car covers from the seats of your car. Wet one of your washcloths and dampen the furry side of the seat cover. Be careful not to get the other side wet. Dampening and wiping the car cover will remove and dust and other particles that have been stuck on the sheepskin covers.
  3. Cleaning with shampoo. The next thing you will have to do is to put a small amount of shampoo on the washcloth. Spread the shampoo on the washcloth. Rub the washcloth down the furry side of the seat covers in only one direction. Repeat this step on the entire surface of the seat covers until you have removed all the stains and dirt from it. Squeeze out the excess liquids on the seat cover. When you are done with cleaning it with soap, dip your washcloth in water to remove the shampoo from it. Rub the furry side with the cloth going row by row. Repeat this step  on the entire surface until you are sure that there is no shampoo left on the seat covers.
  4. Drying the sheepskin covers. When drying sheepskin covers, you must not put it in direct sunlight and avoid using hair dryers and other drying gadgets. Heat may cause damage to the material and may shrink your seat covers. Just hang the sheepskin covers in a dry area and wait for the moisture to completely disappear before putting them on your car seats again.
