Check yourself. Are you in the right state of mind and body to drive? Are you drunk? Sleepy? Angry? Worried? Very excited? Checking yourself is important. If you feel like you can't drive then ask someone else to drive or take the bus or postpone your appointment. Your life is more important than that appointment, right?
Drive defensively. Be alert and watch for potential road hazards both ahead and behind. Try to anticipate the moves of other drivers and that includes their wrong moves.
Maintain a safe distance. This is wise since most collisions results from one vehicle following another too closely.
Be aware of blind spots and distractions. Do not rely solely on your mirrors. If needed, turn your head to see the things happening around you.
Don't multitask while driving. A phone call shouldn't be entertained while driving since it can distract you. Operating gadgets are also another form of distraction.
Be visible. Motorcycle drivers should make sure that they are visible--especially at night. Turn on your headlights and stay out of blind spots of other vehicles.
Observe proper dress code. Motorcycle drivers are required to obtain a certain dress code for their safety. Helmet and thick, protective clothing are amongst the things required.
Check your brakes. Most accidents I have observed are caused by the malfunctioning of their brakes.
Check your tires. Make sure your tires have plenty of tread to reduce the possibility of sliding or hydroplaning.
Check tire pressure. The improvement of handling and braking depend on this.
Wear your seat belts. Some countries have laws and punishments for not wearing seat belts. Wearing your seat belt can safe your life.
Drive according to conditions. Some instances such as wet roads, roads with ice or snow affect stopping distances and steering ability. So it is essential to take measures to drive safely.
Check your headlights. Make sure your headlights work--especially if you're driving at night. Visibility is important.
