How To Create Employee Motivation Incentives

If there is discontent among the ranks, the desired quality and quantity of work will not be achieved. Motivated employees, on the other hand, bring success in terms of productivity and profitability.

There is no standard formula to employee motivation. The technique to be used in employee motivation is, in fact, dependent on the employee that is being motivated. Picture this, if an organization has two hundred employees, that would boil down to having two hundred different ways of employee motivation. One employee may be motivated by verbal praise alone while another would prefer if there were some monetary reward for a job well done. Different strokes for different folks, so they say.

The following are types of employee motivation incentives that you can actually apply in your own organization:

  1. Peer Review and 360 Review. As the name suggests, co-workers provide feedback to the employer about the quality of work that an employee produces. 360 Review is more comprehensive because it also involves self-ratings and feedback from higher management. Feedback from the direct supervisor is not solicited at all to avoid extending an influence to the review given. Peer and 360 reviews enable employees to accept feedback with an open mind. This will then motivate them to personally make adjustments to strengthen the weaknesses in them that may have been identified during the review. Positive feedback from peers and upper management also motivates them to continue meeting the acceptable work standards.
  2. Rewards in the form of promotions, certificates, and compensation adjustments. Most companies use this form of employee motivation incentive program. These rewards are dependent on employee performance. There may also be additional incentives like achievement awards given during company anniversaries. The frequency of these rewards differs per company, as there are financial considerations to be thought about.
  3. Skip Level Lunch. A Skip Level Lunch program lets employees, regardless of position, mingle with each other during lunch time. Employees are encouraged to socialize with their superiors and enjoy the free meal. These lunches give the employees a chance to learn from their managers and colleagues.
  4. Employee Networking Program. This employee motivation incentive program aims to bring together employees of similar interests or cultures. The company may give its blessing to employee networks and even sponsor some of their activities. For example, the company may support a Special Olympics for its disabled employees.

Employee motivation incentive programs make employees aware and sensitive about the company's efforts to improve the quality of work and amount of productivity in the workplace. These also raise the degree of self-motivation among employees so that they will be the ones to take responsibility in improving their performance and eventually go up the career ladder.

Without well-performing employees, the success of a company will be near to impossible. Employers should be aware of this fact, and they should be willing enough to invest in a good employee motivation incentive program for their organization.
