How a Blood Bank Network Functions

A blood bank is a place for stocking blood donations from donors. The blood that is donated to a blood bank is used by other people who are in need of blood transfusions.   4. Platelets. Another element that is separated from the blood is the buffy coat. The buffy coat is the element that is used to make blood platelets. Blood platelets are also used in blood transfusion. Unlike the red blood cells, the buffy coat is stored at room temperature. It can last up to five days.
  5. Storage. In cases where the red blood cells are rare, cryopreservation is done. This is the process of freezing the blood at subzero temperatures. This allows the blood to be usable for up to 10 years. There is a solution called glycerol that is mixed with the red blood cells. The glycerol is mixed with the red blood cells to ensure that they will not be damaged due to the very low temperature.
  6. Cord blood bank. A cord blood bank is a facility that stores blood that is taken from the umbilical cord. This blood can still be used for other purposes, such as curing immune systems and different blood ailments.
