One of the quickest ways to get set up to make money online is by doing affiliate marketing. Imagine partnering up with some of the biggest names in the retail and online industry such as eBay, Amazon and Wal-Mart. Well, with affiliate marketing you can do just that. When you become an affiliate marketer for these or any one of the thousands of companies that offer affiliate marketing, you get paid a commission any time someone buys something from them because they visited your site first, which eventually led to the sale. This sounds harder than it is.
The first thing you need before you can become an affiliate marketer for the big boys is a website. Be sure that this website is legitimate and not something you slapped together in ten minutes. This is important because you can’t just decide that you want to partner with a heavy hitter such as Wal-Mart; you have to be approved. Here’s how it works:
Apply with relevant companies: Once your website is set up and you are ready to try your hand at affiliate marketing you will have to apply to do so. It is important to apply to companies that are relevant to your website. If your website is about men’s shoes and you try to become an affiliate marketer for a tennis ball manufacturer, the company will probably reject your application. To find companies for application, simply do an online search and you will be amazed at the number of affiliate marketing opportunities there are. Once you find a handful of companies with whom you are interested in partnering, apply with them. This is a simple process and is free to do. If a company ever wants to charge you to be an affiliate, then simply walk away.
Promote: Once you are approved to be an affiliate marketer for certain companies, then you will use special text links or banner links throughout your site to give visitors a place to click so that they can then visit those company’s sites. The special code lets a company know that the visitor came from your site and when a sale is done you are compensated with a commission. Obviously the more sales the better so your job now becomes that of a promoter for your website. After all, the more visitors to your website, the more potential clicks, and thus the more potential commissions.
Cash your checks: Commissions vary from company to company and can be as little as two percent of the sale and as high as 75 percent of the sale. Once you begin to rack up commission with the company that you are an affiliate marketer, you will begin to get commission checks. Usually after a relationship has been established, the company will be willing to direct deposit your commissions straight into your bank account. Depending on the company, this can be done every month, every quarter or every six months.
Getting paid simply because someone visited your site is an awesome feeling and you too can know that feeling by becoming an affiliate marketer. While you won’t get rich out of the shoot, with enough time and tenacity you could make a rather good living as an affiliate marketer provided you get enough traffic to your website.
