Online payments for services rendered and products purchased have become so easy that anyone with a credit card or a PayPal account can accomplish it. It has become a very convenient way for many people to do their shopping in the comfort of their own homes. Even booking and purchasing an airline or cruise ticket can be done easily. The only difference between online and regular in-store purchases is that online purchases do not give out paper receipts. Every transaction is electronic and will only warrant an electronic receipt which is either displayed on your Internet browser or emailed to you as a confirmation of your purchase. Obviously, you will want a hard copy receipt of any online purchases for tax purposes and to keep track of your finances. The reality is that you can print a hard copy of any electronic receipt easily and with no hassle at all.
Browser displayed receipts. Most websites normally provide a browser displayed purchase or payment receipt for any transaction that you completed through their website. Upon completion of their order or sign up form and encoding of your credit card or PayPal account details, the website will redirect your browser to server generated page where the receipt will be viewed as confirmation of the transactions. To print it, you can look for the print page option in your browser and it will initiate the printing process with your printer. Make sure a printer is installed to complete this. Some sites provide links to download your receipt into your computer as a PDF file. In most cases, this is much better since you can print it and still have a digital copy saved on your computer as well. Other sites will send a copy of the receipt to your personal email which you should have entered when you completed their order form.
Downloaded PDF receipt. If you choose to download a copy of the receipt from the website, then all you have to do is click the link provided for download on the webpage and it will automatically download it as a PDF file and save it on your computer. When the download completes, locate the file and open it. You will need PDF viewer software like Adobe Acrobat Reader to open the file. As soon as you open the file, click on the print icon at the top menu to initiate the printing. Make sure to keep a soft-copy of the receipt on your computer for future reference and as a backup copy.
Emailed receipt. Most websites will send you an electronic receipt by email which is usually in an html or text format. To print it, access your email and locate the email receipt. Open it and click on the print function to initiate printing. Do not delete the email as this can serve as a digital back up copy as well.
Copy and paste. Another way to print a receipt is to copy the details of the receipt displayed on your browser or email and paste it on a ew document on Microsoft Word. Highlight the details on the browser or email pertaining to the receipt and press “CTRL” and “C” simultaneously. Open a Word document and press “CTRL” and “V” simultaneously to paste the copied details onto the word document. Edit the format if necessary and print.
As soon as you print the receipt for your online transaction, you will now have hard copy evidence for the transaction that you can use for your taxes, following up on the delivery of the product you purchased, and to keep track of your personal finances.
