For people who are looking to start an online business, one of the simplest and very lucrative options is to become a seller on eBay. For starters, anyone can sign up to become a seller, you can promote your business and products to a worldwide audience, the start-up costs are very minimal and you can get to see results almost from day one. To learn how to sell on eBay, read through the various steps described below.
Step 1:

Sign-up as a seller on eBay. You can sign-up on eBay by navigating to the main page on the site, click on the ‘register' icon and follow the instructions given to complete the joining formalities.

Step 2:

Build activity on the account. If you're a rank beginner to eBay, it is preferable that you build up some account activity in the first thirty days from opening your eBay account. You can bid on or purchase low value items to build a ‘feedback history'. This will help you in securing more hits from potential buyers when you do begin listing items for sale.

Step 3:

Research listings for similar products. Before you list products as a seller, go through some of the similar product listings that are already on the site. Look through the seller's feedback history, check for items that move significantly faster than the others, the number of bids lodged for each product or listing and the layout and description of the product. Doing this will give you an idea of how to prepare a listing for your products such that they attract buyers quickly.

Step 4:

Prepare your listing. Write a creative product description, provide photographs of the product and list in detail all the specifications, accessories provided, warranty details, if applicable and include weight and dimensions' measurements. Also make a mention of extraneous costs such as delivery and shipping, taxes where applicable, any freebies you wish to offer along with the product and of course, the price at which you're selling the product.

Step 5:

List the product on eBay. Log into your account on eBay and choose the ‘sell' option, either on the main page or in the "My eBay" section. Choose the relevant category under which the product is to be listed, enter the title and product description prepared in step 4 above. Make sure to fill all the fields in the sales form, check for errors and correct, if found. Once you're sure you've filled all the details accurately, click on the ‘submit' button to confirm the listing. On submission, you will get a conformation email from eBay, stating that your product has been listed.

Step 6:

Follow up on the listing. Keep checking frequently on your listing, while it is valid. This way you can track the number of bids or offers received, reply to any queries that are submitted by potential buyers and look through their feedback history to decide whether the bids are serious or not. When replying to questions, make sure you provide truthful information and be friendly and customer focused in your replies.

Step 7:

Final steps once a bid is selected. Once you've picked a winning bidder, or if the item is sold under the "Buy it Now" option, prepare the item for shipping and delivery, be sure to package it securely and ensure it is delivered to the buyer within the timeline promised. Provide feedback on the buyer once receipt of the item is acknowledged and feedback is left by the buyer.

Now that you're a little more familiar with the selling process on eBay, you can start wetting your feet by placing small value items, build up a satisfied customer following and an excellent rating - 95+ out of 100 is a good start, but keep pushing it higher by providing a quality service and buying experience for your customers. Be upfront, honest and prompt in your dealings and you will find that it is easy to secure a very high rating, enhancing your earning capacity!
