Laziness is tempting. Sometimes there is no better idea that to laze away the day on a hammock. In the busy world you live in, you might feel you deserve a little laziness. You are probably right. However, if your laziness has taken on a life of its own, you can get it back under control. Follow these steps and you can stop being lazy.
- Get adequate sleep. What might seem like laziness could be fatigue. If you lay on the couch feeling lazy into the late hours of the night you might find that the problem is lack of sleep. Just because your body rests doesn't mean that you are rested. Your mind and body need real sleep not just rest.
- Give it five minutes. Sometimes the most difficult part of any activity is getting started. Make a deal with yourself that you will give the activity five minutes and if after that time you don't want to continue you can give up. This works for exercise, starting a new craft project or even cleaning your closets. You will often find that once you get started, you skip over the five minutes and keep moving.
- Reward yourself. If you need a little motivation consider developing a reward system. For example, if you do all of your planned exercise for the week you might reward yourself with a pedicure on Sunday afternoon or an evening of poker with the guys. Choose rewards that fit the effort. So a fifty pound weight loss will deserve a better reward than getting out of bed on time for an entire week.
- Ask for help. Are you motivated more by taking care of others than taking care of your self? If so you might ask for some help to stop your laziness. Ask a family member to walk with you to help motivate you to get exercise. Or clean the living room together with your kids and make it a race or a game. There are times when everyone needs a little help, by asking for it you will be less inclined to give in to laziness.
- Exercise for energy. Energy lag is a primary motivator for laziness. It might seem contrary to logic but exercise does not create fatigue as much as it fights fatigue. By adding exercise routinely into your life, you will have more energy to do the things you love. In return you will also have more time and energy to speed through the chores you don't want to do just so you can get up off the couch.
Laziness can be fun and the more practice you have being lazy, the easier it becomes. If you have reached a point where it is time to give up your life of leisure and start getting active, you are in luck. With a few small changes and challenges to yourself, you can stop being lazy.

I like the 5-minute rule. You are right. Starting is often the hardest.
