Professional and considerate movers are definitely hard to find these days. Some of us just happen to be so unlucky as to land a mover who would not even be careful enough in handling that prized leather upholstered couch and simply drag it across the bumpy pavement. Some of us, however, are extremely happy with the service they provide that we are caught in the dilemma of not knowing how much or how little to provide as tip. Here are some pointers you can refer to in case you ever have this apprehension in the future.

  1. Know when it is okay not to tip your movers. Movers are hired as they are expected to help out during a particularly difficult move. They are expected to take care of your especially delicate items such as that expensive plasma screen television or that all too important and dear personal computer. But sadly, it is not uncommon to encounter movers who seem to pay no mind to their chosen profession that they end up wrecking their client's stuff. So if you happen to be one of those unfortunate human beings who get to work with such neglectful movers, then by all means do not tip them at all.
  2. Supply your movers with food and drinks as reward for a job well done. This is a modest offer considering that the move has been a specifically hectic one. Long moves such as out of state hauls are especially arduous that it is but fair to provide your movers with food and drinks which they can turn to while out on the road. There are also situations that may call for this type of tipping. Ever experienced getting stuck in the notorious traffic? You end up with a handful of movers starving because it's way past lunch and they're still hauling out stuff from the truck. Needless to say, instances like these should be compensated with food and refreshments.
  3. Know how much is fair to give as monetary recompense. This will ultimately depend on how much you have been satisfied with the service, and of course, your budget. A fair recompense for one or two movers would be up to $30 each. If you hired more than two, however, then it might be too costly to give them such an amount individually. Consider giving each mover the amount of $20 each. Another option would be to hand the money out to the head mover so they can split it on their own later.

Movers are truly the front liners of the customer service industry. It is but rightful to treat them fairly so long as they carry out the job they are expected to deliver.
