How To Use Bulk Cargo Carrier for Transport

Globalization is a word that is increasingly being used in media, news, and even at home. One of the major implications of a globalized world is that more and more commodities and products are being manufactured, transferred, and sold from one place in the globe to another. To do this, a cargo carrier is used. The cargo carrier is a type of ship that can hold anywhere from 35,000 deadweight tons to over a hundred thousand deadweight tons. This type of product transportation is used for shipping various goods and products including cereals, sugar, salt, steel, and lumber. Most of the materials that are shipped in these carriers are semi-processed or raw materials that are not measured by piece, but by tons.   • Determine what you need. The first step is to determine the type of cargo carrier that you will use. Keep in mind, however, that o use cargo carriers you should have not only a large supply of goods that need to be transferred – instead, you need massive amounts of goods that should weigh several tons. Usually, cargo carriers can be classified either as bulk carriers or tankers. The commodities that are used in bulk carriers are dry goods, while the commodities that are transported using tankers are liquid. Apart from this, cargo carriers may be classified according to their deadweight. The lightest carriers have deadweight of 10 to 35 thousand tons and are called the Handysize. For those with deadweights of 35 to 55 thousand tons, the carriers are called the Handymax. For deadweights of 80 thousand tons and more, the carriers are called Capesize. There are also special types of carriers that are designed to be able to pass the Panama Canal, called the Panamax. These have a maximum deadweight of 80 thousand tons. Check also if you need roof cargo, cargo racks, a ladder rack for rooftop cargo, or cargo boxes.
  • Contract. Once you have determined your needed ship, contact the shipping company who owns the ships you need and pay for the use of these ships. The payment can be arranged either on a per day basis or on a per ton basis. The primary difference is that the per ton basis can be rather expensive especially if are transferring extremely large quantities, in which case your tonnage could reach a hundred. You can also choose to charter an entire carrier, which means that you will act as the owner of the ship during the time allotted. This is especially useful for massive transport loads carried out by major corporations and manufacturers.
  • Check the navigation. Also consider the navigation path that the ship will take. This is usually determined by the market needs for a specific product. If you have a ship chartered to your company, you will be able to send the ship sailing to whatever distant land you wish to unload to. Otherwise, you will have to let the carrier set out a path that covers all of the destinations for the various types of cargo that is loaded in the carrier.

The cargo carrier is not a mode of transportation for your average merchandise. If you happen to need one, however, there are ways of getting the carrier to transport your load.
