A business like a flower shop is one of the most profitable ones around. Almost every occasion and every emotion is expressed through giving flowers. There are arrangements for birthdays, for "get well soon" messages, for condolences, for success and many more.

It is exciting in the sense that you get to meet many people while you are creating a bunch of flowers for them. But you also have to devise an elaborate business plan so that your flower business will be a sure hit. Here are some tips on how to write a business plan for your flower shop.

  • Have a vision for your flower shop. You should be able to visualize what your flower shop will be, how it will be designed. You should also set a goal on what you want to achieve for your shop, what to offer your potential customers. Would you be catering small orders, bulk orders, for individuals, for occasions like weddings or for companies, and many others? Are you going to offer seasonal flowers, imported flowers, day-to-day flowers, and other options? Think about things that you can offer that will set you apart from your competitors.
  • Scout for equipments and suppliers. Running a flower shop requires equipments too, such as scissors, refrigerators, buckets, vases, and many others. You even have to look for flower suppliers both domestically and internationally, if you have the budget to do so. Look for suppliers that will give you the prices of their flowers at reasonable prices. But it is better if you have your own flower plantation so that you will be able to save from retailing and can even supply other flower shops.  Be sure that you will stick to a planned budget so that you will not have a losing business.
  • Consider the location of your shop. Be sure that your place is accessible to your costumers and potential customers. See whether you have many competitors in the place. If you decide to make a shop out of your garage or empty storage room, you should ask local authorities about location restrictions. Be sure that you will be able to get a license for your store so that everything will run smoothly.
  • Devise a plan on how you will track your business. It is important that you will know if your business is doing well or is a "losing" one. Devise a plan on how you will keep a record on your expenses and sales. You should log all the in and out flows of your cash in a logbook or a software in your computer so that you will not miss out on anything.
