If you are looking for a job in the health care field, why not get EKG certification? An EKG technician is a cardiovascular technician who performs tests called sonograms or electrocardiograms on a person's heart, EKG testing, Holter monitor testing, and stress testing. This article will teach you how to become an EKG technician.

An EKG technician will use the EKG machine to create an image that will show the electrical impulse activities of the heart. The EKG tech places electrodes on your chest, arms and legs and creates the image from the machine's readout on your heart activity.

An EKG technician can earn his certificate in a one-year EKG certification program. There are other courses that you will need to take to be able to do Holter monitors and stress testing, but you can talk to your guidance counselor or admissions director about that if you decide it is something that interests you.

You will need to do your EKG technician training and receive the appropriate certification through your local college, university or technical school. There are also a number of online schools which offer EKG tech degrees.  For example: at South University, as an online student you will have access to the many of the same opportunities that the on-campus students have, including an excellent education and personalized attention. The Independence College and American Intercontinental University are at the top of the list, and there are several other online schools where you can become an EKG technician. Virginia College, Keiser University, Kaplan University, Penn Foster College, Ashford University, Baker College Online and Bryant&Stratton College are all great online schools where you can earn your tech certificate.

After you have finished your education, you will be fully qualified to work in a hospital or a cardiologist's office. EKG technicians' salaries will vary from state to state, but most certified techs can expect between $11 and $15 an hour to start.

With so many schools to choose from, you are sure to find an accredited school where you can train to become an EKG technician. Good luck!
