So, you submitted the well-polished cover letter and resume, breezed through the phone interview, and nailed the in-person chat with your potential boss. Now you get to sit by the phone like it's two days before the big dance and you're waiting for that dreamy football player to call and ask you out: "Will he call? I'm sure he'll call! He's got to call!! What if he doesn't call?" The one thing that may help you land the hunky footballer, I mean, the dream job, is sending a brief, professional post-interview thank-you letter. Think of it as that one last impression that might help you stand out and be remembered amongst all those other bright individuals.

Searching for a job can be a full time job in itself. Networking, scouring the help wanted ads and filling out applications can sometimes seem like more effort than it's worth. But don't give up -- you never know when you'll get a call from the human resources department of a wonderful company asking to schedule a face-to-face interview.

When that call does come, you can delight in the idea that you are only one step away from your dream job. So shine your shoes and start giving some thought to the best way to answer the interviewer's questions! Here are a few tips:

How To Answer Job Interview Questions

When you interview for a job, you want to put your best foot forward and demonstrate that you are a good fit for the position. But don't forget that at the same time, you also want to find out as much as you can about the company to see if it is a good match for your needs, too. It has to be a win-win situation! Here are some tips to keep in mind the next time you need to answer some job interview questions:

Do your homework in advance. This will help you to know what the company does and how they operate. This will help you feel comfortable answering questions about how your skills will benefit the employer. If the company has a website, it is always a good idea to visit it before the interview so you will be as prepared as possible.

How To Answer Situtational Interview Questions

Interviewing for a new position can be an intimidating process. You try to prepare as best you can by reviewing your resume, thinking about what questions might be asked and how you'll answer them, and practicing your responses. You analyze your strengths and weaknesses. You warm up like a ball player getting ready for the big game. Then you find out this is a behavioral interview, and you'll be asked situational interview questions. And you ask yourself, "What's a situational interview question? And how do I prepare for this type of question?"

Well, there are two types of situational interview question. In one type, you are given a specific set of circumstances (read: challenges) and asked how you would create a positive outcome from them. In the other, you are asked to provide a negative situation from your own experience, and detail how you successfully resolved it. Preparation for either type is the same.

How To Write KSA Statement Answers

If you have never heard of a KSA statement, you are not alone. Many Americans don’t know what a KSA is, let alone how to write an answer to one. However, knowing not only what a KSA statement is, but also how to write an effect answer to one can make the difference between getting a job…and getting left in the dust.

What is a KSA Statement?

KSA stands for knowledge, skills and abilities. A KSA statement, therefore, is a statement about the unique qualities needed to fill a particular position. A job that requires KSAs usually lists between three and five KSA statements in the job description.

How To Download Resume Templates

When you submit your resume for a position, you should highlight your accomplishments with previous companies, focus on your strengths, and present your information in a neat, clear, and concise manner. Sounds easy. How do you decide what format to use for your resume and what font would be most appropriate? How do you find examples or templates to use so you have a sort-of blueprint that you can simply cut and paste your own information into without having to be a professional graphic designer or computer whiz? Finding a resume template is actually very easy, and I'll show you three different places to find just the right template to use for that dream job application.

How To Write a Functional Resume

True or False: When writing a resume, you should highlight all of your qualifications and accomplishments, list your previous employers, starting with the most recent and working backwards, and arrange the resume in such a way that it can be used for multiple job applications in a variety of fields. If you answered False, good!

The key to writing a successful resume is to tailor it to fit the type of position you are applying for, not to generalize it so you can just make twenty copies at Kinko's and scatter them all over office supply stores, accounting firms, and zoos (what? People work at the zoo...). What's the best way to create a functional resume? I'm so glad you asked, and I'll give you a few easy steps that will answer that question and give you the tools you need to make your resume shine.

How To Write a Resume

One of the first steps to employment is creating a professional resume. There are services available to assist you in this endeavor, but before you spend upwards of $300, consider writing your own resume. In this era of computer proliferation, it's not as difficult a task as it once was. A resume is your marketing tool - your sales brochure - and who is better qualified than you to write a brochure about you? There are two basic types of resume, and their designs are a bit different so I will address how to write each type separately.

Chronological Resume

This type of resume is a timeline of your experience listed in order of most recent to oldest.

You can, optionally, begin your resume with an objective. An objective states your area of interest, and may include your goals. An example of an objective is: To obtain a position in food service management for a growing company with room for advancement.

How To Conduct a Phone Interview

If you are an employer with a job opening to fill, phone interviews are a good way to screen potential employees without investing too much time or money in the process. At the same time, phone interviews give applicants a chance to set themselves apart from the competition and pique an employer's interest. No matter which side of the phone you are on, here are some tips to make the most of the interview process:

For Employers:

Use phone interviews as a way to quickly assess a pool of candidates and identify those people you want to pursue further.

Prepare before you make the call. Review the applicant's resume and know the position you are looking to fill.

Come up with a list of questions you want to ask and key points about the job that you want to convey so you can keep the call moving along.
How To Ask an Interviewer Questions

During an interview, you should want to get to know as much about the company/team/environment you could potentially be working for as much as the interviewers want to get to know you. And because it works both ways, it's good for you to ask the right questions to find out what you need to know. This way the interview doesn't become an interrogative setting to your disadvantage. Instead it will just be a conversation where two parties chat.

Of course you have to bear in mind what kind of interviewers you get. Inexperienced interviewers will throw questions at you without expecting any in return. Regardless, it's good to narrow down your list of questions and ask these interviewers what you truly want to know towards the end of your interview. The more experienced interviewers will expect you to ask questions because it shows that you are proactive, interested, and keen (all positive traits for a job).
