How To Get Careers with an International Relations Major

Career opportunities for an international relations major can fall into many fields.  They may include banking or taking care of records in an archive.  You could find a job in one of the many government offices, or working with a civil rights firm. Working for the CIA or working for a completely voluntary organization.  Businesses will also offer career opportunities for an international relations major.  This is often in the field of risk management.

When you started your field of study you probably thought about working for someone like the United Nations trying to promote world peace.  Or perhaps you have watched too many James Bond movies and thought about being a spy.  These are not the only career opportunities for an international relations major.

Many of today’s students may find themselves working for a business or a charity organization.  Although many of the charity organizations have few paying openings, it is possible to get your foot in the door by volunteering your services.  This work experience will look good on your resume, no matter who you end up working for.

Other career opportunities for an international relations major exist in the world of business.  Many businesses will need people who can advise them on the political climate of the countries that they do business with, or have factories and offices in.

Another type of career opportunities for an international relations major is in government agencies.  Many departments will be needing people who can analyze the trends developing in the world and advise them on the creation of policies and the implementation of the policies.

There is also the field of diplomacy to consider.  Career opportunities for an international relations major may include but are not limited to embassies in other countries.

NGOs (non government organizations), voluntary and campaigning organizations, and think-tanks should be included in the field of search for career opportunities for an international relations major.  So too, should news reporting agencies.

Journalisms offer many career opportunities for an international relations major.  Whether reporting for television, newspaper, and magazine or for a website, an understanding of international relations will help anyone reporting the events happening in the world.

Market research will also be a career choice for people with training in international relations.  In this field you will be responsible for collecting and analyzing data for the purpose of judging new and existing market areas.  Keeping an eye on competitors and market conditions that will affect the company.

Career choices for an international relations major are many and varied.  Choosing which one you want to take advantage of may be the only problem.
