For job seekers, acing the interview with the HR manager is the make or break step in acquiring that job. However, many jobseekers are not capable of handling job interviews. Some find it difficult to answer all of the questions the HR manager throws at them. Some get nervous that they cannot find the right words to respond while they know the answer to the questions. Some are simply not prepared for the interview.
So what are the things a job seeker should do in order to ace the interview? Here are some tips.
Do your homework and research. Before going to an interview, do your homework first and research. Look for information about the company so that you can say something about it during the interview. The interviewer’s assumption is that you ought to know the company because you applied for it. Going deeper like awards and citations for the company will surely impress your interviewer. The basic information you should know about the company are a) the owners, b) the president and chairman of the company, c) the company products if applicable or nature of business and d) the greatest achievement of the company.
Bring all the requirements and make extra copies. You may have submitted your resume and transcript of records already, but it would not hurt to bring extra copies. This is for convenience in case you want to point out something in your resume or in your transcript.
Be on time and dress to impress. Most of the job seekers fail on this. The interviewer is only limited to a certain time as they have things to do as well. If the time specified is not convenient for you for valid reasons, tell the HR personnel immediately so that they can adjust the schedule. But once you agreed on a set time, be on time. Get to the office at least 15 minutes before the agreed time. You can use this time to freshen up after that long walk or still catch your breath. You can also use this time to get composed and cool down. Also, do not forget to dress properly. Think of this interview as a business meeting where you have to convince your client to get your product. A good hygiene with a proper dress sends an impression that you are a responsible employee.
Be confident and sell yourself well. Don’t forget to bring your confidence with you when you face the interviewer. The pitfall of every job seeker is to get nervous. You should be able to present yourself well, and highlight your skills that are suited for the job vacancy. Never tell something that you are not just to get the job as they can always check your background later on.
With the above tips, you should be able to ace the interview. Just be confident and sell yourself well. Acing the interview is just the first step. You have a probationary period when you get hired to show that indeed you are the best man for the job.
