Uploading your resume to a job web site is fairly easy after the first time. These steps can be used as a generic procedure. One thing to note is to include your full name and position applied for in the file name of your resume. Proofreading the resume before uploading is also important.

1.  Prepare a resume using a text editor such as Windows Notepad.
2.  After saving your resume, minimize the text editor by clicking the dash near the upper right corner of the screen.
3.  Activate the web browser and type in the desired web site.
4.  If you have not already done so, create an account and follow the directions on the web page.
5.  Enter the information as directed.
6.  At some point in the process, you will be asked to upload your resume.  See the alternative below.
7.  Select the "Browse" button on the web page and locate the file on your computer.
8.  Click on the file and proceed with any instructions on the screen.

Alternately:

7.  Maximize your text editor, select "Edit" near the top left of the screen, then click on "Select All".
8.  This will highlight the entire text.  Right-click anywhere in the highlighted text and click on "Copy".
9.  Go back to the browser and right-click in the box where the resume text will go.
10.  Select "Paste"
11.  Proceed according to the instructions on the web page.

Uploading your resume is a fairly straightforward procedure.  The steps above may not be in the exact sequence as listed, since each web site can vary in its procedures.  These steps are based on my own personal experiences in uploading resumes to job web sites.

Most web sites are compatible with Internet Explorer 7 or above as well as Firefox 2.5 or above.  Also, most web sites will require an accurate email address.  Usually after submitting your resume and finishing the account setup on the web site, you will receive an acknowledgement that your resume as been received.

This point is very important:  Never include your Social Security Number in the resume, since anyone with an employer's account can view the resume once it is uploaded.  It is possible that scammers can set up employer's accounts.
