If you have perfect vision and you are good in navigating your way around town, you can be a bus driver. There are basically two types of bus drivers. A school bus driver and a transit bus driver. You must have patience if you want to become a bus driver. You will be spending the whole day behind the wheel so it is good if you can entertain yourself during traffic. You will also be dealing with different types of people so you must know how to be friendly.

Bus drivers have hundreds of passengers each day. They have an important role of transporting children and employees to work or school everyday. If you have plans of becoming a bus driver, here are some of the tips that you can follow:

Develop your skills. One thing you have to do if you want to be a bus driver is to develop your skills that will help you in achieving your goal. This does not only mean your driving skills. You have to have a long patience, attention to detail and of course, you must be friendly to your passengers, especially if you are going to be a school bus driver. Being a defensive driver is another skill that you should learn to be a good bus driver. You will be in charge of a lot of passengers so you must know how to avoid road accidents.

Learn road signs and policies. You have to know the different policies when it comes to road courtesy. This is to avoid any untoward accidents from occurring when you are driving. Also, know the different road signs that you can encounter while you are traveling. This will help you become a responsible driver.

Get a driver’s license. Bus drivers carry a different license from ordinary drivers. You must get a CDL or a Commercial Driver’s License in order for you to be a bus driver. For you to obtain a CDL, you must pass a written examination that will test you of your knowledge about road policies and regulations. If you pass the written test, you will have another test. This is the road skills test. You will be asked to drive a bus so that they can see how well you can operate it. Aside from this, you also have to undergo physical examination wherein your eyesight and hearing will be checked.

After getting your CDL license, you can already be a bus driver. Be sure to check the policies in your area. Some states require bus drivers to be at least 21 years of age while other states can have bus driver’s as young as 18 years old.

You can now get a job as a bus driver. If you love kids and if their noise does not affect you or get you irritated, then it is best for you to get a job as a school bus driver. Otherwise, you can apply to be a transit driver so that you can drive around the city.
