The medical field is growing larger every single year. It is a great field to choose as your career choice, but it is not so easy to become a nurse or doctor. You do not get to just decide to become a person in the medical field and then you go out and get a job overnight. It takes a lot of hard work and time to get to where you want to be.
To become a nurse, you have to apply for the right school. For nursing, no matter what field, whether it's pediatric, mental illness, ER, etc, you can choose to go to a two year technical school or a four year college. I suggest you trying a technical school. You get the same education, if not better and in a shorter amount of time, you can get out there and work. You also get more hands-on learning and the bill is much cheaper to go to a technical school than a regular college.
If you choose to be with children more, then you would want to become a pediatric nurse. To become a pediatric nurse, you have to go through the usual nursing classes and everything else. You first go through the usual basic classes such as math, English, computer classes, science classes, etc. Then you start getting into the classes that introduce you into the medical field. Usually, medical terminology is one the first classes you will take. It introduces you into the language of doctors and nurses and you start to learn more and more about the body. You will begin to learn how to build medical words, learn roots, learn about medicine and why it is named what it is. Medical terminology can really help you decide if this is for you. It gives you insight of what you will be doing and dealing with every single day.
You have to take a pre-nursing exam before you are accepted into the nursing program at the school of your choice. This helps sort people out and choose the right people for the program. If you want to make sure you pass, study your medical terminology. Also, your grades in the mandatory classes are a factor when being chosen. You have to make sure you are working hard and getting the good grades if you want to be in the nursing program.
To become a pediatric nurse, you will take more classes, such as child care and child growth and development classes that can help you learn more about children and their bodies. They are a little bit different to handle and take care of compared to a regular adult.
If you want to become a pediatric nurse, then you should make sure you are willing to work hard and take the time to succeed and graduate from school; you can pick up some nursing courses online if you need to work while you're in school. Nursing is very rewarding career that you will love every single day.
