The Rapid Deployment Force is a special branch of the armed forces that is meant to move faster and reach farther. It is used for operations that require quick deployment. This special force was formed in the United States in 1980 under President Jimmy Carter to enforce the Carter Doctrine, a foreign policy that would allow the use of military forces to protect the United States’ interest in the Persian Gulf.

Accordingly, the concept of the Rapid Deployment Force is not new but rather, a re-organization of an older rapidly deployable force concept. During the time of President Kennedy, the then Secretary of Defense Robert S. McNamara created an organization named Strike Command. These two organizations were created and fell under the same concept and mission, which was the quick deployment of forces.

As of this moment, the United States is no longer the sole country with Rapid Deployment Forces. The other Rapid Deployment Forces are Helsinki Headline Goal, European Union Battlegroups and other NATO response groups. All members of the United Nations form part of the peacekeeping committee, thus providing aid through their Rapid Deployment Forces. These rapid deployment forces are now created to serve as an arm for the multinational peacekeeping operations. They provide rescue, security and aid during the critical times.

The Rapid Deployment Forces are divided into different operatives, the land, the sea and the air. Each of these divisions have specialized training on different military vehicles and craft use in peacekeeping operations. The deployment agents are trained and prepared for a quick deployment during crisis management. The training of the Rapid Deployment Forces’ deployment agent includes: muscle and strength training, speed and effectiveness. Furthermore, the Rapid Deployment Force training includes mastery of different combat skills and weapons like the knife, gun and other weapons used in actual battle or combat. Their training will be based on their divisions.

The Rapid Deployment Forces are also used in computers and web technology. The concept of RDF in technology is basically from the same concept as the military—to provide a quick response or solution to any problem encountered by the users. An example of this is the deployment console designed and created with Windows Explorer.

The deployment console is a deployment solution that would teach users how to access and explore their computer system. The deployment console makes it easier for the user to learn the process by using different views or schemes. Like the military RDF, the computer RDF also uses its own tools like the icons, symbols and colors. Different icons and symbols are used to help users understand their computers. Colors are tools that provide convenience to the computer users.  By knowing what each visual tool stands for, users will be able to communicate and use their computers well.
