How To Find a Summer Job in a Coffee Shop

For some students the summer season is a time to take a break from learning in school but for others it may be a time to take in more knowledge about the world they will be facing after they graduate from school. It is also a way to gain experience by working at different establishments while school is out for the summer. Finding a summer job in a coffee shop is one way to gain work experience, as you will learn how to deal with customers, serve food and manage the cash register. These steps will help you apply for a summer job at one of the coffee shops in your area.

  1. Search for coffee shops in your area. Try to go out and look around your community for coffee shops or cafés. A coffee shop that is closer to where you live will be a perfect choice so you wouldn't have to take long trips to and from the establishment. Most of the coffee shops will be found in the business district and shopping malls. You can also find coffee shops at hotels and some office buildings. If you can't find one in your immediate area then you'll have to consider traveling further from where you live if you want to get a summer job in a coffee shop.
  2. Visit the coffee shop. When you find a few coffee shops that you are considering working at, try to visit the establishment to see the working conditions and the various jobs that are done around the shop. This will give you an idea about the day to day tasks and the times of the day that the shop is busiest. If you can talk to some of the employees on how to apply for a job there and if the working conditions are favorable then you will gain more information about the coffee shop you are considering. If you get a chance to talk to the manager then you can ask if there are job openings. After you have visited the coffee shops you can now make a list of pros and cons for each shop to help you narrow down the shops you want to prioritize.
  3. Requirements for application. There are coffee shops that will require you to have some experience in catering, waiting tables, preparing sandwiches and having good communication skills. If you lack in any of these requirements you can ask if there are on the job training opportunities. This is a great way for you to gain experience for the next time you apply for a summer job in a coffee shop.
  4. Create resume and apply for job position. Create a good resume that will show off your skills and your personality. Some employers will want to know how responsible you are with handling tasks and if you will strive to do your best at the job you are applying for.

Working at a coffee shop during the summer break is great way to gain work experience. It will give you a better chance of getting jobs in food service.
