If advertising is a field which interests you, here’s what you must know about the jobs available in advertising…
- On the creative side - Creative jobs in advertising include copywriting, illustration and drawing, graphic design, etc. These jobs are the basic foundations of any advertising campaign using the most basic media – print, for example – and as the number of mediums increase (television, film, etc), the number of creative jobs also expand – cameramen, directors, editors and so on. As far as qualifications are concerned, it goes without saying that you need to be very creative, either as a wordsmith or work magic with images, illustrations, etc. An associate degree or diplomas in specific fields such as graphic design, art or copywriting will be the minimum qualifications you need to get started.
- On the marketing and account servicing side - Jobs in this area involve scouting out new clients and pitching the advertising agency/company’s services. Once a client is signed up, an account executive (usually the person who signed up the client) is assigned to manage and coordinate all aspects of the client relationship and all advertising campaigns.
- Media Management - This segment of advertising deals with media buys – ad space in print media such as newspapers, journals, magazines, etc, time-slots on television, radio and film and so on. It is also involved in researching and analyzing which media will have the greatest impact while advertising the product or service under consideration as well as trends from consumer demographics.
- Production - This is the team which is responsible for actually creating the final advertising product, whether for print publication or for filming. This is also the department which may have the maximum number of positions at the entry level, especially if film production is done in-house itself.
