Ask your professors. You will need to attend college after high school, taking courses in the sciences. While you're there, ask your teachers about upcoming job opportunities in hospitals. Discuss which hospitals in your community are the best to work for. Your professors (present or former) will have a good idea about the quality of the local hospitals, and they should be able to direct you to the best hospitals to work for. And if your professor still works at a hospital, you may be able to find a job at a hospital through him. Network with as many of your instructors as you can so that after you finish school, you'll know people in the healthcare field who you can approach when you're looking for a job.
Get the word out there. Another great way to find jobs in hospitals is through word of mouth. Talk to your classmates, colleagues, mentors and friends who work in or know someone who works in a hospital. Inquire about upcoming job openings and hand your résumé to anyone willing to pass it on for you. Get people talking about your interest in a job so that down the road, when a position in a hospital is available, your name is the first one that pops up.
Go through a professional organization. As an educated health care provider, you will belong to several different professional organizations. Take advantage of your membership in both local and national organizations to get yourself a job in a hospital. There may be job postings on websites that your membership will grant you access to. As well, you may be able to network with other doctors or nurses through these professional organizations, which might result in a job offer. The more exposure you can get for yourself, the better your chances are of snagging a job in a hospital.
Volunteer. If you can afford the extra time (and lack of paycheck), considering volunteering at hospitals after you finish school. Sure, it doesn't pay anything. But it just might be the way you'll get your foot in the door, so to speak. You'll gain valuable experience working with the medical staff, and your familiar face will give you a great advantage when a job arises at that particular hospital. Devote some of your own time to working with the patients as hospitals and you'll have a better chance of getting a full-time job in a hospital.
