Working from home presents many pros and cons. Sure you have the comforts of sitting on your favorite couch while earning a living. But sometimes it also has its downfalls, especially when you get too comfortable and accidentally fall asleep in the middle of a rush project.

After you've found a take-home job, what next? Remember when we used to feel real lazy with homework? It's because we are very much used to feeling relaxed at home rather than the "studying" or "working" atmosphere exuded by school or the workplace. And more often than not, we end up not being able to finish our take-home work.

But fret not--here are a few helpful suggestions on how to make sure that you not just work, but actually finish work when you work from home.

  • Keep a mental note of why you chose to bring that particular piece home. It may be to have that extended holiday or extra pay or maybe that extra incentive that might just earn you a promotion. Write it down and post it beside your work table at home. If you work freelance, remind yourself why you prefer that from a regular desk job.

  • Entice yourself with the rewards waiting at the end of the project. Think of what you will be able to do with the extra credit or incentive you will acquire upon finishing the task at hand--make it your driving force.

  • Concentrate on the work at hand. It quite easy to be swayed with the usual things you do at home. Also if you are doing a multitude of things, it helps to create a breakdown of things, say if you are a virtual assistant customizing shoes. Which one do you accomplish first? Do you do the soles or the inventory first? It's new to you, as long as you make sure you do them in an order that is systematic and you feel comfortable in.

  • Set your pace. Even if you are working at home and have control over your time, it is crucial to determine your pace, how fast you'll be working, and how long.

  • Figure out the best time for you to work. Figure out the time are you most productive -is it during the afternoon, late in the evening or after a cat nap? And how many breaks will you allow yourself and how long will it take while taking into consideration the overall time you have for the project to be finished? The key here is determining which working plan will you function at your prime so that you may be able produce work twice the quality, in half the time.

  • Use extra inspiration. Does listening to music uplift your spirits and let the work flow easier or faster or maybe silence would make you feel more relaxed and ready for more work? It could be as simple as changing into comfortable clothes to watching a movie beforehand or nibbling on a tasty treat- anything to keep the energy going for you would help you finish your take home work in a jiffy.

And lastly, don't forget to have fun. Not everybody is able to take work to a comfortable place like home. Take pleasure in its benefits fully by making sure you finish the given tasks on time then enjoy its rewards.
