Ever had a situation when a million things had to be done at the same time and you wondered how these tasks piled up, or how you could have committed to so many deliverables at the same time?  It could be a worse situation when you are saddled with various tasks and no one else to do them, but you!  Surely, most of us face this situation many times in our lives. It is amazing how a human being can perform multiple tasks quite happily at the same time, with minimal effort; all it requires is a bit of organized approach to a busy day, week or month. Gradually, this could become a habit. Do you need help in organizing your time? Then, a personal organizer is your answer.  It could be a paper/ diary organizer, an electronic version or even an online version. For some time now, some models of cellular phones have been including personal organizers that can be synchronized with your desktop / notebook computer. Here is a listing of the different types of personal organizers and how you can use them to manage your time efficiently.
Step 1:

Paper Personal Organizers. These are divided into various sections; to begin with there will be a section containing a full-page for each date in the year with separate rows for every fifteen to thirty minutes; this is for recording appointments, meetings, other scheduled tasks [such as bill payments] soon as they are fixed and also to remember special occasions [birthdays, anniversaries, etc.].  A separate section for project-based-activity contains spread-sheets to record information on budgets, expenses incurred, options to record time-lines for various actions and deliverables by others and yourself and so on.  A section on priority tasks is for noting immediate tasks and due dates for completion; a separate finance section is good to record all expenses incurred, particularly useful for when traveling on business or for pleasure.

Step 2:

Electronic Personal Organizers. These are small devices that you carry in your pocket. Easily portable, these devices assist in recording all those details mentioned in the previous step; some devices also have an option to print data so you can read all your entries together.  You can set reminders with an alarm to buzz prior to the appointed time for various activities to be carried out as well.

Step 3:

Computer based Personal Organizers. There is a multitude of software available on the Internet - some free, some as shareware and few others are cost a price.  For most people who use a computer [desktop or notebook] and the Internet, these software packages could be indispensable once you become comfortable using them.  If you use a cellular phone which has a scheduler, tasks section, etc, it is definitely advisable to choose the software that is most compatible with your phone.  This way, you can record information in various sections of the personal organizer either on their phone or on the computer; enable synchronization between both devices and you would not miss out on any appointment or schedule.

Step 4:

Optimal use of Personal Organizer. Your choice of personal organizer should be decided based on your comfort levels using any or all of them; make sure not to have more than 2 organizers, else you will end up spending extra time in copying data between the organizers, which does defeat the purpose! If using electronic, computer or phone-based organizers it is certainly helpful to backup data periodically. The bells and chimes in these organizers will help you stay organized and not miss any commitment or deadline.

Irrespective of the type of organizer, try not to record sensitive data such as ATM-PIN numbers, bank account details or similar confidential information. However, certain personal information such as your name, address and telephone numbers must be recorded to help identify you in event of an emergency.
