There's a common battle happening every day in every workplace - it is the battle against stress and all that comes with it -- namely, worries. There are a multitude of reasons for this, a bevy of things that are or are not happening that result in stress. One of these is when you feel like you're no longer doing the job that you were hired for or even worse, doing not only your job but that of others.
There are ways to go about dealing with stress and one is by taking the time to analyze your working day and redefining your job description.
- Being clear on your job description not only helps you get over stress, it also allows you to help the company improve on so many points. You are a specialist at the task that you were initially hired to do. Hence there is also a specialist for the work that falls involuntarily in your lap. The hope is that the company will keep job duties aligned with the people hired to do them.
- Try to review what you normally do in a working day, if you are really doing what it is that you were intended to do when they hired you. Try to think outside the box, and list the general description of the things you do and why you're doing them. Are you being asked to do these or are these things that you volunteer to do?
- Figure out the reasons why this happens to you, and also take the time to ask if this happens to other people inside the office aside from yourself. See how you feel about each of those things on your list. Which are the things that you want others to do and which are the things that you know fall under your job description?
- Always consider the reasons that might have led to the issuance of work that is no longer part of your job range. Give suggestions on how to rectify things if there is a discrepancy between your job and what you're doing. It might be a lack of employees or overload of work in other departments. There are a lot of reasons, so be open to suggestions and opinions.
If you have done all that you can to rectify the situation, you may need to figure out your company's rules in filing complaints with the human resource department.
In the end, if you belong in a company that knows how to take care of its employees and, at the same time, is informed about its performance in general, then this issue will be addressed and acted upon accordingly.
