You have proudly and bravely served your country and are now wondering how to return to life after war. You may be in a sort of shell-shocked state of mind and it may be necessary for you to find some support in several different capacities. While it is important for you to get on with your life, you do need to make sure that you have yourself taken care of before anything else is considered.
When returning from war, you should consider doing the following:
Take some time out: First of all, you need to take some time out for yourself and assess what it is you want to do with your life. Yes you will want to find a job and earn a living, but give some thought as to how you want to do that. If it is something that requires additional schooling, then look into one of the many programs that are available for service veterans to take advantage of and use them to help catapult you to your fullest potential.
Seek out counseling: Nobody but you knows what you did or didn’t go through in the war in which you bravely fought, and you may find it helpful to have someone who you can talk to about your feelings. This is when finding a good counselor is a wonderful thing. No it doesn’t mean that you are crazy, it simply means that you need to have someone there who can listen and help you work through any issues you may have. Friends and family are always great, but many times they just don’t have the experience to understand that you may be going through some things that just need to be worked out.
Find support groups: While it is true that there is no civilian that could ever know what goes on in a war and what feelings that will bring about, other war veterans do. Finding a support group in your local area can give you an entire support network of like-minded individuals who may have gone through some or all of the things that you find yourself facing. Who knows, you too may be able to help someone else find some much needed support.
Live your life: Hold your head up high and be proud of what you did for your country. Live your life to its fullest potential. Never feel badly about taking advantage of programs and services that are available to help you, as the country owes you a debt of gratitude for helping to keep it safe.
