To be a part of something great is a wonderful choice, especially if you plan to continue in it for the rest of your life. The image of nationalism and defending your country comes to mind, especially in a time of turmoil, strife, and insecurity. To serve in the military may not be recommended for a lot of people, however, those who have the courage and willpower to get through will stand tall as a proud member of the Armed Forces. If you're interested in history, logistics, and planning, then a career program in the US Military may be a good move for you, especially as a career in this field is not just a career but it is a calling, a mission for life.

  1. US Army. The United States Army is one of the largest foot, tank, and artillery land based armies in the world. With a force of 548,000 only a few other armies, like China's, are higher in numbers. With cutting edge weapons and superior personnel training, the US Army contains a large bulk of the population of the United States Armed Forces. If you would like to enter a career program in the United States Army, there are several options available for you. However, most enlisted officers start off at West Point, the oldest military service college in the United States. Once you graduate from West Point, different army schools are available. The US Army School for Aviation Medicine's mission statement is "...to enhance the combat readiness of US Army warfighting forces by conducting aeromedical training of both aviation and medical soldiers..." They are normally soldier-doctors who rush to the front lines to give aid to men who have been wounded in action. Most applicants are those with medical backgrounds or who have interests in the health sciences. They take a 15-18 month stint as a student to earn their "wings". 2. US Navy. For the US Navy, most enlisted officers start off in Annapolis, at the US Naval Academy. They have 22 majors to choose from, ranging from Aerospace Engineering to Systems Engineering. With several sub-majors like Arabic, Political Science, and Mathematics. Graduates of the US Naval Academy either become Ensigns of the Navy or Second Lieutenants of the Marine Corps with a bachelor's degree where they further their studies. Midshipmen, as they are called, specialize in several abilities, such as helming, engineering, and leadership. However, some go further and advance their educations in paralegal studies, nuclear physics for nuclear submarines, or aviation.
  3. US Air Force. Enlisted Personnel of the United States Air Force start off at USAFA, or the United States Air Force Academy where they train in gliders or free-fall parachuting during their second years while slowly going up - literally!- to training planes. All cadets - as they are called - take courses in military theory, operations and leadership. Their core curriculum also includes humanities, social studies, mathematics, military studies, and physical education.

Only those who have served could understand, they say. And that is quite true. No one book, one guide, one instruction manual, can tell you how it feels to start off as a plebe, to work your way up, to study, work, and play hard, to live life for one's country, and to understand the needs of the military in peacetime, as in war. If you still wish to join the Military, go ahead. You will not regret it.
