There has always been an ongoing debate on which one is better, solid ink or laser printers. Nobody has won because these two types of processes have their own advantages that are just hard to ignore.

Tektronix invented solid ink in 1986. It works by using a tiny ink tower cartridge that when placed into the printing machine will be melted and will be transferred onto the material.

The laser printer was invented in 1969 by Gary Starkweather, a staff of Xerox, by getting the idea from the modification of a photocopier. Laser printers function with a toner in which the laser fires up the powder to create texts as well as images.

But what is the dissimilarity of the two? Let's find out.

Solid ink is inexpensive. It produces quality printing that can rival the best laser printer or even better. It is widely used by photographers due to the high color density. You can always find information about it on website reviews of photo printers.  The examples will show detailed prominence of each color on a particular or limited space. It could come in a package as a free color printer.

Another fascinating thing about it is that it is non-toxic and the implication for saving the environment is another free advantage. However solid ink prints fade much faster especially if exposed to the sun. They also require more heat, thus a higher electricity bill for you if you have a high consumption rate. Do not disregard the solid ink as an inferior way of printing because upon second review, you will appreciate that it is totally not bad at all. On the other hand, it could damage your printer by drying up once left too long or it could get clogged. However, if you are someone who knows how to do good maintenance then this would not be a problem for you. The strange smell of ink from this one is something we cannot do anything about.

Laser printers are more often than not used in offices or mass printing set up. The reason for this is you can save money, especially if you buy in bulk. You can print more than a hundred pages in a very short period of time. The good thing about this is it gives you a highly professional result. This produces better quality print, especially black text. It even contains a number of fonts you can choose from for whatever purpose you have in mind. A recent laser printer review from Australia however stated that laser printers might cause respiratory problems if exposed in excess. This also gives out nitrogen oxides, etc, which is not environment friendly. But if you are on quality and quantity plus cost efficiency go for this one.

These two types can be a bit tricky to choose from because of the different advantages and disadvantages If you are at home and do not really need to print much, go for solid ink. You can easily print family photos as well. If you are running a business and want to save time, then go for the laser printer. In the end it would be totally up to you, but be sure to choose the right one for your lifestyle. Although it is a simple thing, choosing between solid ink and laser printing can have a major effect on your everyday life and your time spent waiting for documents to print.
