How To Download Free Holiday Screensavers

Downloading free holiday screensavers is a fun and easy way to spice up any computer!  Used to show photos, pictures, and animations, screensavers are activated once the computer has been in idle mode for more than a few minutes.  What the screensaver shows is all up to the user.

There are many sites that offer free screensavers, and you can simply search for the holiday you are looking for.  Once you find a holiday screensaver of your choice, you will need to download it onto your computer.  In most cases, you can either click the Download button or thumbnail picture to start downloading your free screensaver.  A message will pop up that will ask if you would like to open the file from the current location, or save the file.  Choose to open the file and the downloading process will begin.

The installation wizard will guide you through the rest of the steps, so clicking on the Next button will carry you through downloading your holiday screensaver.  Once you click the Finish button, your free screensaver is saved onto your computer.

In order to adjust the settings, you will need to go into your screensaver menu.  Right click on the mouse, and click on the Properties button. The Display Properties box will appear and then click over to the Screen Saver tab.  From this menu, you can choose your new holiday screensaver to be the default and adjust any settings.  For example, you can choose how long the computer has to be in idle mode before the holiday screensaver appears, how big you would like it to be, and any transition effects between multiple pictures.

And of course, don't forget to preview your free holiday screensaver before saving the changes in the menu!

Although fun and easy to do, bringing the holiday spirit to your computer can sometimes come at a cost.  There are many sites that allow you to download screensavers for free, yet are bundled with malicious programs.  These can include viruses, spyware programs, and toolbars.  The dangers of these programs vary from adding a somewhat annoying but harmless toolbar, to being able to track your user activity.

In order to minimize these risks, download your free holiday screensavers from trusted sites or directly from the publisher's site.  Also, read the terms of agreement before clicking yes, as you can usually find a mention of other programs being downloaded along with your free screensaver.

By taking the proper precautions, you can safely add some holiday fun to your computer - and all for free!
