New to computers or stumped on a problem with your computer? Sometimes you need to review the computer learning basics. Or maybe you need to teach others about computer basics. Even elementary students these days need technical know-how in using the computer, aside from turning it on and clicking their favorite game. Here are some things you need to know when looking for sites teaching the computer learning basics online.

  • Tutorials. The site should have basic computer tutorials about the things you need to know in using a computer, in order to use it efficiently and effectively. You should see if they have interactive tutorials that you can learn from or can encourage your students to try. If the program is downloadable, copy the link and present it in class or to your child. Also think of your audience and consider the kind of tutorial that they would need. Basic tutorials would involve how to use the mouse, the parts of the keyboard, keyboard shortcuts, LCD brightness and contrast, finding files in your computer and shutting it down properly.
  • Programs. The site should have basics on learning how to use Microsoft Windows XP, Vista, Linux, Macintosh, and other types of programs. Programs are only as user friendly as your desire to understand them. You should be able to understand how to use the programs, especially the basic ones like those used in clerical work, data encoding for accounting or creating Powerpoint presentations. If you enroll yourself in one or two advanced computer courses, it will not be difficult for you to follow the topics so long as you know your basics.
  • Internet. The site must have at least the basic know-how on how to use the Internet. If you are going to teach this or show it to your kid, show them the basic buttons and commands on the keyboards that will prove most effective in Internet searches and emailing. You may be able to further understand the different types of computer browsers that you are using and discover functions you did not know about the first time you learned to use the internet. You can even learn to add browser protection if you have kids at home.

To have a good solid base, you must gather all the basic knowledge you can in computer skills to become an effective and knowledgeable computer user. Sometimes, you can just learn the basics and explore the more complex features as you go along. As long as you have your basics, you can never go wrong. Learning the computer basics allows you to further your enjoyment and utility in the computer and internet worlds.
