Malicious software includes viruses, worms, Trojan horses, different types of spyware, and a variety of other devices used to damage your computer. Sometimes these malicious tools cause strange messages to pop up on your screen; they may erase all of your executable files, or totally crash your hard drive. Unfortunately, there are people out there that have nothing better to do than create malicious software and attach it to emails you receive or downloads you make from what you presumed was a trusted site.
Fortunately, there are also people out there who enjoy the challenge of creating tools that can be used to remove such malicious software, or even prevent it from being installed on your computer. Such tools include the numerous anti-virus programs readily available, such as Symantec's Norton AntiVirus or the McAfee tools. Tools such as these may be purchased online and downloaded and installed immediately so that your computer is protected. The software will scan your computer; it will locate and either destroy or quarantine the malicious software. Such tools can be run in the background and are continually scanning your computer as you collect your email or browse the Internet, and will block the malicious software from even being downloaded to your computer.
Programs such as Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware offer a free downloadable version of a strong removal tool used at major technology corporations to eliminate malicious software. An even stronger tool is available for purchase. Some companies provide online scanning tools that will check your computer for viruses and other malicious software and identify them for you. A registry repair program by Paretologic can be purchased online and additional software tools that locate and eliminate spyware and other malicious software are immediately downloadable as bonuses.
These programs are generally simple to use. Once you purchase and download them, they are automatically installed on your computer. Some will even automatically run an initial scan looking for malicious software and remove it before installing. You can then run the removal tool by clicking on the icon it generally places on your desktop. You will probably want to run the "Scan" tool that is usually the first subprogram you will see in the software package. This will immediately identify the malware that is already present on your computer and give you a chance to quarantine or remove it. You can even use the tool to set up a schedule that will scan your computer and remove the malicious software automatically.
