The songs that you add to the iTunes library contain information such as the song's name, artist, album and genre. The song's information is displayed in the main window in the iTunes application but it won't be complete if you don't include the album artwork. There are several ways you can add album artwork into your iTunes library and the steps below will guide you through the process.
- Open iTunes. If the iTunes shortcut is already on your dock you can simply click on the iTunes icon to open the application. If don't have the icon on your dock you can open the "Finder" application and type "iTunes" in the search field. Click on the iTunes shortcut that appears in the Application section. On the left column, select "Music" under the Library section in iTunes. All the music that you added to the iTunes music library will appear in the main window on the interface. Go to the top right side of the interface, right beside the "Search" field are three buttons that control the way the music information is displayed in the main window. Click the third button to display the album art of whatever song is playing on your iTunes.
- Get album artwork through iTunes store. Choose a song in the iTunes library that does not have an album art and then highlight the song by selecting it. At the iTunes taskbar, click on the "Advanced" menu and then click on the "Get Album Artwork" option. The iTunes application will look for available album art for your selection in the iTunes store. In the list of results you can select the exact album art for the selection in iTunes and it will be added to the song's information. You need to have an account at the iTunes store before you can use this service. If you don't already have one you can easily create one at the iTunes Store page.
- Download album artwork. Locate a song in your iTunes library that requires album art. Click on the song to highlight the selection and then view the information by pressing Command+I or click "File" and then select "Get Info". Take note of the name of the album the song is from and then search for it on your Internet browser. In your search results page, look for available images for the specific album. When you find the exact album cover you can right-click on the image and then select the "Save Image As.." option. Save the image on your computer and then go back to iTunes. On the Get Info panel select the "Artwork" tab and then click on the "Add" button. Select the album artwork that you saved on your computer in the "Choose a file" panel and then click "Choose". When the image appears in the Get Info panel you can click on the "OK" button to apply the image to the song.
Your iTunes display will look more interesting when you complete each song's information with album artwork.
