How To Add Music to a Video Podcast

A video podcast will become more interesting once music is added. In this article, we will provide you with instructions on how to do this using the program Adobe Premiere Pro.

  • Upload the video for the podcast on your computer. Create a folder on your computer specifically for this project. All the files that you will use will be saved in this folder for easier access. If you used your own camera to shoot the video that you will use for the podcast, be sure to upload it and then save it in the project folder.
  • Choose the music that you want to add to your video podcast. Browse your own music library, or search online for music that you will add to the video podcast. Make sure that the music you choose will match the theme of the video podcast. Same with the videos, remember to save the music files that you want in the project folder.
  • Load Adobe Premiere Pro on your computer. Double click on Adobe Premiere Pro's icon on the desktop or click on ‘Start', go to ‘Programs' and select ‘Adobe Premiere Pro. If you want to start with a new project, click on the ‘New Project' icon from the Welcome window. You can also select a file under the ‘Recent Projects' section, or click on the ‘Open Project' icon to locate an existing Premiere Pro document on your computer.
  • Import the video file and music file to your Adobe Premiere Pro project. Go to ‘File' from the menu bar and choose ‘Import' from the dropdown. Alternatively, you can also press Ctrl+I on the keyboard to import items from the hard disc to Adobe Premiere Pro. Locate the project file folder created earlier, select the video and music files that will be imported and click ‘Open'. The video and music files will now appear on the ‘Project' pane on the left-hand side of the Premiere Pro window.
  • Arrange the video and music files on the Timeline. Drag and drop the video file from the ‘Project' pane to the ‘Timeline' at the bottom of the screen. Drag and drop the music file from the Project pane to the Timeline as well. If you need to trim the music file to fit with the video, click on the ‘Selection' tool and drag the edge of the music file that you want to trim. If you want to add effects to the audio and/or video, click on the ‘Effects' tab at the bottom left of the screen.  Select from different Audio Effects, Audio Transitions, Video Effects and Video Transitions available and drag it on the video or audio clips on the Timeline.

Remember to preview your work to determine if the video and audio matches. To do this, move the time indicator in the Timeline to the beginning of the video clip and click on the ‘Play' button on Premiere Pro's preview screen.
