After the huge success of the movie Avatar, many people are trying to find out how to build a high quality avatar. An avatar is a picture that represents you on a community website. An avatar could be your own picture or any other image that you feel represents you the best for certain websites.
High quality avatars are somewhat challenging to build, but you can do it if you have the right software. You're going to need software for photo editing just like Photoshop or Irfanview. The last one you can get it online for free, so there's no excuse for building your avatars. Here's a list of steps that you need to fulfill to build your own avatars.
Choose your picture.
You need to choose beforehand the picture you are turning into an avatar if you want to save time. If you're just joining a forum or any other time of online community, you can choose whatever image you want. Some people use images like skulls, a famous character in a cartoon, or even a movie character. On the other hand, if the site you're joining is for something more serious than just sharing opinions, you need to make an avatar of your best picture.
Know the standard size or pixels for avatars.
Now that you chose the picture or pictures that you're turning into avatars, it's time to edit them. But first, you need to find out the standard size for avatars in each website you are joining. The standard size for high quality avatars is usually 64x64. However, the size can go for up to 100x100. Other websites ask you for pixels. The standard pixels size for high quality avatars is 50x50. Also, depending on the website you could upload an avatar of 100x100 pixels. Always check the standard size or pixels needed for an avatar in the website you're joining.
Open your photo edition software and locate the "resize" option in the menu, you can usually find it under "edit". Now, modify the size or the pixels in your picture or pictures. Once you're done, you can save your file as a .gif, or .jpeg format. Another option is to save your new avatar with the option "save for web". This is supposed to make your avatars more likely to look better online, but that's up to you. You won't have problems with your avatars if you saved them in a .gif, or .jpeg format.
Upload your new avatar.
You can upload your avatar directly from a file in your computer, but take in consideration that some websites ask you for a URL link instead. If this is the case, there are several websites specialized in image hosting. Just upload the avatar from your computer to the hosting website, and when go to the website you're joining. When it asks you for the URL link, just copy the URL link you received from the image hosting websites.
As you can see, building a high quality avatar is not a complicated task. Now you can build as many avatars as you want.
