How To Buy Online

All of us are extremely familiar and proficient at walking into a shop or store and buying goods and articles for our use. Doing the same online though, is entirely a different proposition. When shopping online, you need to be more careful and smart, because you are not face-to-face with the seller as you would when you buy in the traditional way. The advantages of buying online are mainly convenience, variety and comfort, you don't have to step out of your home, you can buy from stores across the world, not just in your town or city, and all that is involved is logging onto the internet and browsing away! If you're new to the concept of shopping online, follow the simple tips and suggestions listed here to experience the joys of internet shopping.

Step 1

Paying for products bought online. When you shop on the internet, payment can be made by credit or debit cards or from monetary account systems such as PayPal, E-Gold, Alert Pay, etc. Usually, the price quoted online for any product will not be inclusive of supplementary charges such as taxes, delivery and shipping costs, freight insurance or duties on products bought from other countries. However, the internet is also the place to score real bargains and buy at real discounted prices, so you could end up spending less than what you would have done if shopping in real time.

Step 2

Things to remember while buying online. Keep copies of all records for online transactions - receipts, orders or invoices, emails, etc. Carefully read all terms and conditions before making a payment, make a note of the seller's contact address and telephone numbers, the latter is mandatory, so don't just be satisfied with an email address or even a P.O Box address. Check to see if the sellers are registered with the Better Business Bureau or any other regulatory bodies, and have the necessary credentials to trade online. Check on the store policy for returns, damaged goods, etc. Check more carefully when buying online from sellers who are based overseas, check around to see what other experiences have been like, most websites will feature testimonials so be sure to investigate those thoroughly. Check for payment security mechanisms, the store's privacy policy, etc, shop around and compare prices between two or more sellers for the same products.

Step 3

Sign-up with online mega marts. Sites such as EBay, Amazon, etc have stringent policies for enrolling sellers who can their sell their merchandise through such sites. Most of these have good security systems as well as dispute resolution procedures, so you can be rest assured about having a safe shopping experience.

Step 4

Security tips. Check if the website begins with an ‘https' or has a lock or broken key icon in the address bar. These mean that the data is encrypted before being sent forward, so these are very secure transactions. Check your card bills or bank statements every month to find out if there are any discrepancies which you can immediately highlight, do not send any bank or card details through any mails and report any addresses and sites when you receive such solicitation.

Follow the simple guidelines above; you should be able to have an interesting and enjoyable experience while buying online. Start with a couple of low value transactions, until you're comfortable and feel secure when buying from specific sites where you've had a good customer experience.
