- First, go to http://free.grisoft.com.
- After the site loads, click on the orange Download button under the Free basic protection.
- A product comparison page will load, scroll down and click the orange download button under the AVG Anti-Virus Free column.
- A Welcome to AVG Downloads page will load, click on the orange text at the bottom that says "Continue to download Anti-Virus protection only."
- Another site will load and again click the orange download button.
- Another site will load and then click the blue Download Now button. A new site will load thanking you for downloading and a window will pop-up asking you to save, run, or cancel.
- Click save if you want to keep the setup, or click run to just have it download and automatically open the set up.
- Once downloaded, follow the steps in the set-up
- When you open up this program after it downloads you can choose whether you want AVG to update itself every time you connect to the internet. If you have a slow connection then you might consider switching that off and just manually checking for updates every time you get on the internet.
- Run a full scan on your computer. It could talk a long time depending on how many files you have.
- Once it finishes, if you have a virus, click heal to fix the virus and remove it. This will also remove the infected file.
I recommend this anti-virus system over ANY other anti-virus system because 1. It is free, unless you want to upgrade it. 2. It's easy to use. If you let it run a full scan on your computer it will find ALL viruses and list them in the "vault". From there you can "heal" the file and it will remove the virus from the computer at once.
It is better than Norton because even if Norton is free it is only for a trial period. There are other good anti-viruses like Panda, but again they aren't free. This is the best free anti-virus system. If you want to pay the extra money and upgrade to anti-virus pro for $30 then that's great for you, but with how great the free version works you won't need any other anti-virus system.

Well, Avast could be a good choice, too, because it is also free.
