There is a lot of useful software on these repositories but it isn't enabled by default on Ubuntu. This article will show you how to enable these repositories.
Step 1:

Navigate to [System] > [Administration] > [Software Sources] on the applications menu.

Step 2:

Password.  Enter your superuser password.

Step 3:

The Software Sources window should appear. Enable the "Community maintained Open Source software (universe)" and "Software restricted by copyright or legal issues (multiverse)" option.

Now you have the universe/multiverse repositories enabled!
