MySpace is a social networking site that is particularly popular amongst younger people. Simply put, it’s a place for friends to send messages to each other and express themselves using the many different available layouts. A popular feature of the site involves the many groups that are available to join on MySpace, but sometimes people want to keep their group membership a secret from others online.
If you are a member of groups but don’t want other people to know, follow the simple directions below.
Log into your account. Just sign in using your MySpace username and password as you usually would.
Click on the ‘Account Settings' box. After you've signed in, you should see the familiar bluish box that has your icon/avatar and a collection of options. In these options, the column to the right begins with ‘View Profile.' Directly beneath it is ‘Account Settings;' go ahead and click on it.
Click on ‘Miscellaneous.' Now that you're on the ‘Settings' page, you should see a horizontal list of options near the top of the page that begins with ‘Account.' At the very end of this list is ‘Miscellaneous.' Click on the link.
Uncheck ‘Display Groups on Profile' box. At the top of the Miscellaneous page is the Profile heading. Directly underneath this heading is a click box that reads: "Display groups on profile." Now, all you have to do is make sure this box is unchecked. If it's currently checked, click on it to uncheck it.
Click on ‘Save All Changes.' Make sure you click on the ‘Save All Changes' button when you're finished. Otherwise, any changes you make will be discarded as soon as you navigate away from the page.
As you can see, it’s a very simple task to hide your groups on your MySpace profile, but MySpace doesn’t always explain things well and there are so many options to choose from that it’s understandable to be confused. Other profile options that you may be interested in include:
- Hiding your birth date.
- Allowing photos to be shared.
- Adjusting spam settings.
- Allowing comments.
- Adding an away message.
So make sure you check over your other options while you’re here already and it’s convenient. If you’re really interested in identity security, you can change your profile settings to private – that way, only people on your friends list can view your profile.
