Blogger is a popular weblog service that is hosted by Google. It allows its users to customize the look of their blogs with the use of templates. Following are the steps on how you can install a Blogger template that came from another site.
- Look for a Blogger template and save it on your computer. There are hundreds of Blogger templates that can be found online. Open a search engine and type in ‘free Blogger templates'. Many template designers and Blogger users publish their self-made templates online for free. Once you find a template design that suites your taste, click on the ‘Download' button and save the zip file of the template on your computer.
- Unzip the Blogger template that you have downloaded. Locate the template that you have downloaded in Step 1. Right click on the file and select ‘Extract all' from the dropdown that appears. When the ‘Extraction Wizard' appears, click on ‘Next'. Specify the location where you want the extracted files to be saved then hit ‘Next'. Click ‘Finish' once the files have been successfully extracted.
- Backup the current template you have in Blogger. Log in to your Blogger account and click on ‘Design' from the ‘Dashboard'. Click on the ‘Edit HTML' tab and under the ‘Backup/Restore Template' section, click on the ‘Download Full Template' link. A backup copy of your current template will be saved on your computer. Just in case you want to revert to your old template, you can install it using the backup file.
- Install the new Blogger template that you have downloaded earlier in Step 1. Still under the ‘Edit HTML' section of Blogger, click on the ‘Browse' button to upload the template that you have acquired earlier in Step 1. Locate the extracted template folder in your computer, and be sure to select the ‘XML Document' from the extracted files. Click ‘Upload' and a warning message will appear regarding certain widgets that will not be included in the new template. You can choose from ‘Keep Widgets' or ‘Delete Widgets', but be warned that the latter cannot be undone once selected.
- View the changes and save the new template. Once the new template is saved, a prompt which states ‘Your changes have been saved' will appear. Click on the ‘View Blog' link beside it and another web page will open showing your Blogger site with the new template. Go back to the ‘Edit HTML' page and click on ‘Save Template' at the bottom of the page.
The template that you have on your Blogger account can be changed anytime you want. Just follow the steps that we have outlined for you and you can easily install a new template to you Blogger page.
