Leasing a computer may not be a common practice among regular consumers. However, it is a very reasonable option for those who are thinking of starting a business that needs computers to be constantly upgraded. It is also a practice among business owners since leasing is a cheaper alternative to buying or financing multiple computer units. Aside from the fact that they are spared the enormous bank interests, the costs to upgrade the computers will not rest on them but the lessor.

  1. Look for computer lessors. If you are determined to lease a computer, then start looking for lessors right away. You should inquire from computer manufacturers first to know if they offer leasing options to businesses or even individuals. This is especially true for those who are looking to lease a specific brand of computer. Check the Web sites of various manufacturers. Better yet, hit the yellow pages to get their respective numbers and give them a call. If the computer manufacturer of choice does not lease their units, then check for computer rental or leasing firms in and around your area. You can do so by checking online or searching through the phone directories.
  2. Know your responsibilities as the lessee. Once on the phone with the manufacturer or leasing firm representative, then by all means ask everything you need to know about the matter. First, know the prices of their computer leasing packages. Inquire about the usual length of contract. In most cases, a lessee is expected to honor the contract for at least a couple of years. Ask about early termination of the contract. Will you be obligated to pay fees for deciding not to continue the agreement even before it expires? If so, then how much will you need to pay? And whether the contract is honored or terminated prior to the agreed date, will you be able to return the computer systems without any cash out on your part? These things have to be straightened out to avoid surprises and ultimately additional costs in the future.
  3. Know the obligations of the lessor. Of course, you will need to inquire about their obligations as the lessor. Will they take charge of repairing the leased computers without any fee charged to you? Also, you need to ask if they offer upgrades. If so, then how much will you need to pay every time?

When bent on leasing a computer, other important considerations have to be taken into account as well. Make sure that you check with the manufacturer or leasing company if you can choose which peripherals and software applications can go with the leased equipment. Lastly, a reputable firm would always offer the client the choice to buy the equipment after the end of the term at a discounted price so make sure that you deal only with such a company.
