How To Make a Three-Way Call with Skype

Skype is a cheap, and in certain situations allowed by the software, a free service that you can use to make calls from your computer. Three-way calling is one of the popular features offered by Skype. Here are the steps on how to make a three-way call with Skype:

Install the Skype application on your computer and create an account.
Go to and click on the ‘Download Skype’ button. If you are done downloading the application, just sign in to your account and add the people you will constantly call to your Contact List.

Initiate the three-way call with your contacts.
There are two ways in order for you to initiate a three-way call with your contacts. First is by going under ‘Tools’ from the main menu and then click on ‘Create a Conference Call’, or by simply clicking on the ‘Conference’ icon at the top of the window. Take note that online contacts are the only ones you can engage on a three-way call. Also, depending on the compatibility of your software, Skype can allow up to 9 participants in a conference call.

Invite two other participants for the three-way call.
On your Contact List just click on the two names of your contacts and then click ‘Add’. Their names will then appear on the ‘Conference Participants’ pane on the right-hand side of the window. Click on the ‘Start’ icon to call both of your contacts. If you are already on an ongoing call with just one of your contacts and decided that you wanted to add a third person to your conversation, just select the person’s name on your Contact List and then right click on your mouse, and select ‘Invite to Conference’ from the dropdown that will appear. Only the person who initiates the three-way call can add more participants in the conference call. As initiator of the three-way call, it is best to have a reliable Internet connection to avoid interference during the conference. To add multiple contacts easily to a conference call, you can press the ‘Ctrl’ key on the keyboard, and click on all the names you want to add in the conference and then click ‘Add’.

Now you can talk to your friends, relatives and colleagues, and it is not just talking to one person, but you can engage your other contacts in a conference call so you can all catch up on news about each other’s lives, or discuss the latest projects you have to work on.
