Although DVDs are what are mostly used these days, many people still burn their videos and movies in VCDs, or video CDs. VCDs play in most DVD players, so there is no problem if you do not have a VCD player, as some appliance stores no longer sell those. The disadvantage of using DVDs is that they come in different kinds, like DVD-R, DVD+R and DVD-RW, just to name a few. If you have a movie or video that does not exceed 650 megabytes, you can make use of a CD-R or CD-RW. The CD lasts for approximately 76 minutes. So it is a good idea to make a VCD if your project will not last longer than 76 minutes. Here is how you can make a VCD of your own.
- What do you need? A personal computer or laptop, for starters. It should have a CD-ROM so you can burn your movie onto the VCD. A burning software, like Nero. You can purchase the software online. Go to Nero’s official website and pay with your credit card. A CD-R or CD-RW where your movie or video will be burned.
- Shoot and save your movie. If you are making a movie, get hold of a digital camera and shoot away. After you have made your movie, edit it in your computer and save your finished product. Make sure that your project is in .mpeg file format. It is now time to burn it into the VCD.
- Burn. Put your CD-R or CD-RW into the CD-ROM. Format the CD and put a title on your project. Open Nero and select the “CD” tab and click on “Make Video CD”. Next, click on the “Add Video Files” and a pop-up window will appear. Browse through the computer where you saved your movie and click on its filename. Select the file. You can edit your movie further with this software. Add more credits and photos if you like. Preview your work and if you are satisfied with the outcome, you can now burn the video. Choose the burn button on the window and wait until the whole file is burned on the CD. Take out the CD from the CD-ROM.
Do not forget to back up your file and save it into the computer or a flash drive for future use. You can also label your VCD with the title or file name of your work so that you can easily find it among the other CDs that you have. Use sticker to print in the title of your VCD and stick it on the CD’s surface. Making your own VCD is very easy especially if you are computer savvy. But if you are not, you can still make one. The instructions on the software are fairly easy to follow, so you do not mess up your work. Make more VCDs of your works to preserve it and let the future generations have a look at it and see how good you are in making movies and videos.
