Signing in and out of your email account with AOL can be a hassle, especially if you are opening several accounts (business account and personal account). This can be time consuming and confusing at times. What you can do is consolidate all your mails into one inbox by using your AOL accounts with Outlook Express. By doing this, you will be able to access all your emails from both your accounts in one place. It is quite easy to do this. All you have to do is follow the steps below:
- Check your accounts. The first thing to do is to check your email accounts. You will need your email address and passwords for the accounts that you want to add to Outlook Express. You will also need Microsoft Outlook Express 6 for this to work.
- Working with your accounts. Open Outlook Express. On the menu at the top, look for Tools and click on it. Choose Accounts from the choices that you have. You will then the Internet Accounts window. Choose Mail from the tabs that you see. Select on Add and then Mail. A new window will appear. Here, you have to input the name that you want to use when sending emails. After supplying a name, click on Next.
- Next, supply the AOL email address that you want to use for Outlook Express. Select the Next button. Afterwards, you just have to supply the server that you are going to use. You can choose either POP3 or IMAP. For the outgoing mail server, just type in smtp.aol.com. If you have chosen POP3 server, just enter pop.aol.com. After choosing the appropriate settings, click on the Next button.
- Using your account. Now, you can use your account. On the log in window, supply your AOL log in data. You can check to remember your password so that you won’t have to type it each time you log in. Choose the account that you just logged into. Select Properties from that account. You now have the chance to name the account that you just made. After this, be sure to tick the box at the bottom for receiving mail and synchronizing with your AOL inbox.
Now, choose Advanced. Here, you will find the server port numbers. You will see a number on that field. Replace the number on the field with server port number 587. Select OK. You can now download emails from your AOL account straight to Outlook Express. Just select Tools, choose Send and Receive and then, Send and Receive All. You will see all your emails there. You can add other accounts to Outlook Express if you wish.
