How To Remove Porn from your Computer

Even if you might not actively browse for porn sites on the Internet, there are several ways in which porn site links or the sites themselves can get on to your computer. If you spend a lot of time browsing, every site you browse or link that you click on, downloads cookies and other forms of spyware and some of these may link to porn sites, which keep popping up at irritating intervals. The only solution is to delete such material right from the root, if you keep deleting individual files, more will keep popping up and there will be traces left on the computer, even if you've deleted the file. Listed here are some instructions on how you can remove porn from your computer and keep it away for good.

Step 1

Setting preferences on your computer. The first thing to do is to change the current settings on your computer to automatically delete porn-related data from the cookies, browsing history and temporary internet files.

Step 2

Search and delete all file extensions containing porn links. The next step is to locate and delete all files containing porn from the hard drive. Typically, porn files may come in the following types of files:

  • Movie formats - AVI, MPEG/MPG, ASF, RAM/RM, MOV and WMV
  • Picture formats - BMP, GIP and JGP/JGEP
  • Story formats - RTF, TXT, DOC and WRI
  • Other formats - ZIP, RAR

Run a command to search for all files with extensions as those listed above and move all of them into a new directory. Do not use the ‘copy' command to move all the files, since your objective is to permanently delete all porn files.

Step 3

Get PGP. PGP stands for "Pretty Good Privacy", a powerful encryption utility that helps in deleting unwanted data permanently and fills up sections of the hard drive, where such data resided, with random bytes, such that tracing any previous history becomes difficult. Run PGP on the directory you created in the previous step; it will completely erase all porn-related data in the directory and rewrite random bytes on all places where such data would have resided.

Step 4

Anti-porn software. Another way to remove porn from your computer is to invest in any of the anti-porn software packages available in the market today. Some popular programs are Snitch, NetEraser, Media Detective, etc. An interesting feature of most anti-porn programs is that they constantly update their database with details of all known porn sites and block the flow of any data from such sites.

Deleting porn from your computer is quite easy once you know how. Use any of the above methods and rid your computer of all irritating and embarrassing porn-related data.
