Surfing the Web is an everyday thing for most people these days. Because this is a daily event, individuals operating a Web site are concerned about the security of their users and the information entered into their Web site. This information could range from a user's complete name, address, landline or mobile phone number, email address, social security number, bank account number or credit card numbers.

What most people don't know is that when you connect to the internet, you are taking risks. This is because if the Web site you visit and enter your confidential information into doesn't have a secure Web server, an unknown user could get to it and use it to commit computer fraud. This is especially true for credit cards or checking accounts used to purchase large bulks of products to be shipped abroad. This type of internet fraud is commonly called a Nigerian bank scam. To avoid these issues on your financial account concerning scams and frauds, you should make sure that the Web site is protected from this type of theft.

So how do you actually make sure your Web site is protected from these fraudulent intruders? The following will guide you on what to do to make your Web site encrypted and secured.

1.  Setup and launch your Web site.

Build your Web site with the usual steps in creating an ordinary one.  Create your web page by using an HTML editor like Microsoft Front Page. After creating your web site using an HTML editor, you will need a domain name and a web host so that you can publish it online.

2. Request to generate certificate signing request form.

You can contact your web host for the CSR form to be sent to you. Be sure to keep this information, because you will need to enter this information when you are ready to import certificates from a web service that offers SSL certificates.

3. Look for a list of capable Secure Socket Layer (SSL) certificate providers that you can import security from.

SSL, now known as Transport Layer Security (TLS), is an encryption protocol used to execute protective functions by jumbling the data entered on a Web site. Consider buying SSL certificate security through VeriSign, Thawte and GoDaddy because they are well-known providers of SSL certificates. These providers will help you to create a certificate or export certificate security for your Web site.

4. Install and setup the SSL certificate.

The CSR form that you got from your host web host will play an integral part in installing the security certificate, so make sure you have it on hand. Follow the instructions given by your SSL provider in setting up the security certificate.

5. Assess if the SSL certificate is working properly after installation.

You can do this by typing https:// instead of the normal http:// you use when entering a URL address.

Remember to pay your SSL provider so that they do not stop or cancel your subscription to their security service.
