With the advent of the internet came boundless opportunities.  There has been so much innovation since the internet's early days that the next 10 years should send it to the stratosphere.

One area that has skyrocketed is the online retail and selling business.  Businesses now can promote their products over the internet and the consumer can purchase these items without any cash exchanging hands and with both parties being satisfied.  Online stores have sharply inclined since in the past several years; although this is a high-tech industry, the expansion of online sales has come about the old-fashioned way.

Every good business starts with a viable and successfully implemented business plan.  Online or not, if a business plan is not solid and most importantly made for sustainability, the business will not succeed.  Is the product something that the public wants?  Is there an escape plan just in case that the venture does not pan out?  These types of things are covered in a good business plan.  If they are executed properly, then the chance for success steeply rises.

The key to online sales is that purchasing items from home gives the consumer an easier way way to shop.  He can sit in the luxury of his own house and do things that in the past would require a trip to a mall or store.  A lot of major businesses have now gotten into 'drop shipping'.  A drop shipper is someone who works for a company and acts as like a middle man between the consumer and the retailer.  For example, Levi Jeans uses drop shippers to sell their products on auction sites like Ebay and Craigslist.  The drop shipper gets paid a commission for every item sold.  Only paying the dropshippers upon shipment also helps the company; they don't have to pay rent or a standard salary, and they know that when they do compensate their dropshippers, it is for services rendered.

Online selling is no different than a brick and mortar businesses.  The success of retail is a plan that has been copied for years and years.  The only major difference is that online shopping gives consumers an easier way to purchase goods - right from the comfort of their homes.  If the consumer feels comfortable then there is a very good chance he will come back to spend his money.
