How To Send Large File Attachments Using Sendspace

Email accounts and forums generally limit the size of file attachments which you can send—sending large file attachments may seem out of the question. However, if you need to attach a larger file, another method is available. Sendspace is a website which allows you to upload large file attachments of up to 300 megabytes, and send an email to your recipient directly from the Sendspace interface.

To send large file attachments using Sendspace:

  • To save on transfer time and send multiple files together if needed, compress the file(s) you wish to attach via Sendspace. For Windows users, the quickest method is to right click on your file (or a folder of files) and select "Send to > compressed (zipped) folder" on the menu that appears. If you have alternative compression software such as 7-zip or WinRAR, it's best to use those instead, as they create smaller files than Windows' built-in compression function.
  • Point your web browser to sendspace.com. The interface for uploading to Sendspace appears on the front page, so you don't need to go any deeper into the site to attach your large file. Premium accounts aren't necessary for occasional use.
  • Next to the box labeled "Select file", click "Browse". A window will appear allowing you to navigate to the compressed file you wish to attach, just like selecting an attachment for your email. Once you've selected the file, double-click it and the window should disappear, leaving the name of the file in the "Select file" box.
  • You can optionally fill in the "Description", "Recipient's email" and "Your email" fields. If you do, Sendspace will automatically deliver an email to your recipient, telling how they can download the large file attachment, what it is and who it's from (the sender will appear as "sendspace", your email address will appear in the message). Alternatively, you can omit these fields, if you wish to send a personally written email with the file, or if you wish to post the link on a forum as an alternative to forum attachments.
  • Click the "Upload" button and you will be moved to the next page, where you will be given a progress indicator telling you how much of the file has been uploaded so far. On completion of the upload, you will be given two links to the file, one for HTML and one for forum code.
  • If you specified email addresses in step 5, you are now finished. If not, you'll need to copy one of the links from the page which appeared. The HTML link is for emails or websites, while the forum code link is for forums. Compose your message on the email or forum of your choice, making sure to include the appropriate link, and send.
