After the Windows welcome screen, most computers take a lot of time to start. This time can be reduced drastically by following the steps in this article. Many software run a semi version of themselves during start-up, so as to speed up their actual program. Many times, this is not needed - like Adobe Reader's semi version. Many programs also run Update checkers - like RealPlayer, Quicktime, etc. I don't need most of the programs. What do I do? Disable them.

Open run
Different Operating systems have different methods. Here are the common operating systems:
- For Windows XP: Go to Start > Run
- For Windows Vista: Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > Run

In Run, Type in "msconfig" - without the double quotes. Then click Ok.

In Msconfig, go to the "startup" tab.
Here, Uncheck all the unwanted programs like: Quicktime, Adobe Acrobat, Yahoo Messenger, Msn Messenger, Google Talk, Realshed, etc.
Now, Go to the "Services" tab.
Also uncheck the unwanted programs here.
